Boat Works II - Shit happens. Literally

As we told you in our last post, when we moved to Ambrym and started getting ready to sail, we found some surprises. Things that broke or failed and needed our immediate attention.

So we spent the first weeks fixing, fixing, fixing and fixing!

We have an awesome electric toilet. Silent, efficient... it's so awesome compared to what is usually found in any boat... when it works!!!

When flushing it was pouring so little water that it just didn't make sense. And sometimes some dirt was coming back to the toilet... so altogether wasn't the most awesome experience...

On top of it, after so many tests, and while trying to figure out how all the pipes, hand valves and routing worked... we filled up the holding tank, it overflowed and we had to empty it by hand.

At 40 degrees Celsius. (The holding tank is where all the shit goes if you are in a Marina and not allowed to dump it directly to the sea)

Awesome isn't it????

We ended up having to disassemble the toilet about 3 times, replacing the pump, the seals, all the pipes, the air vent. It was literally, a shitty work to do. But we learned a lot and we made it!! After a beginning like this, what can go wrong??? But we must say that we are very happy with the toilet (now that it works). The problems were age, old pipes, little use. But the toilet itself works great. We still want to replace a valve once back on Ambrym soon, but that's all.
