Ambrym - a Ferrocement boat

Ambrym is a two masted Schooner, the main mast (tallest) is the aft mast (rear).

This means... a lot of sails to manage!

She is made of ferrocement.
And yes, ferrocement boats do float.

There are 7 berths.
Only 1 head (toilet) though!

Built in France in 1978 , changed ownership and flag to Austria in 1985 and in 2020 to Ireland,

She has a long keel.
Most of the boats have a fin keel. Ambrym's keel is almost the whole length of the boat. This is better for heavy weather and long distances but makes manoeuvring in tight spaces quite difficult!

Ambrym is 12.5m long, 3.5m wide, 1.8m draught.
Her weight is about 18 tons!

She has 4 fixed sails that are ready to use.
Apart from that, there are 2 extra sails than can be rigged between the 2 masts.

She is powered by a Yanmar 4JH5E 50hp engine with Vari Prop 4 blade feathering Propeller

Ambrym is the boat's original name since the first owner in 1978. Or almost. Originally she was called Ambryme, the French version. The name comes from a volcanic island in the south Pacific.
