About Us

The captain

Lloyd is our captain and Ambrym's owner.

He comes from Ireland and his dream has always been to buy a boat and sail around the world... and after maaaany years of searching for the right boat and moment, here it is!!

Climber, hiker, paddler, but mostly sailor, he both loves meeting people from all around the world and talking for hours, as well as disappearing in the silence of nature or a hot bath.

After living in Ireland, US, Canada, the Caribbean, New Zealand and Austria, now is time to explore the oceans on board of Ambrym.

With wide experience as marine engineer, he's not scared of the challenge that an old boat means, and he's happy to teach the rest of the crew or whoever keen on learning.

The first mate

1st Mate Ana,

She is from Bilbao, North West of Spain on the edge of the Bay of Biscay.

Grew up in sight of the sea! (but never ventured into it)

After studying and working in Madrid, she moved to live and work in Austria for nearly 10 years! Multilingual, she speaks English, German and Spanish.

An avid snow Skier even before she moved to Austria, she is also a passionate foodie.

After meeting the Skipper in Austria and going on some adventures together, it's not clear if she believed he was actually going to buy a boat...

Always up for learning new skills, she is enjoying learning the ropes. Learning how to sail from the beginning... as she moved into a boat without having any idea what she was doing!

With too many hobbies and interests, from photography to social media, cooking, sports... now she's into crafts too, such as basket making and sewing - being put to good use on Ambrym.

She enjoys the adventure of new places, new people, new crew and new challenges!

The boat

Ambrym is a 1978's Endurance 40 Schooner.

She was built in France and she's been in the Mediterranean ever since, mostly as a member of an Austrian family that have spent many many summers with her.

Since August 2020 we have been refitting and sailing in Greece, and now looking forward to all the new adventures and crew to come!
