ABORDO

"Abordo" means onboard in Spanish.

The idea was born onboard Ambrym, our boat. That's where all started, and were hopefully most of our products are made. For now we are working from home, but looking forward to being back on the water.

Behind Abordo you can find Ana.

She found on Abordo the way on bringing two passions together: outdoor activities and crafts.

Creating upcycled items from sport and marine leftovers is the dream she's working on.

MATERIALS

The idea behind Abordo is upcycling, so the first step is getting the materials.

We started using ropes and a wetsuit from our own boat, but we are now slowly finding friends and sponsors that want to see their old materials or leftovers turned into nice products.

Thank you! Reusing and upcycling is a great way of taking care of our planet.

What have we upcycled so far? Retired wetsuits, old ropes, outdoor clothing fabrics from an old factory, belts/buckles/straps from old bags and purses... and a paraglider!!

THE PROCESS

Wetsuits have been used, materials have often been stored for long somewhere... so the first step is sorting out, cleaning and disinfecting. We want our materials to be nice and clean, so we put a big effort into that!

Once clean is time to see what's usable, recover zippers and buckles, cut away worn and broken patches... it's a lot of work until the materials are ready to go!

CRAFTS

And finally, the nicest part!

This is the creative and fun time! It is sometimes the frustrating part too, as materials such as neoprene are not easy to work with and it's a long learning process, but we enjoy it anyway!

For the moment is not a proper shop, it's more like a catalog where you can find what I do.

As all the products are made from upcycled materials, they are unique and I can't guarantee that it would be possible to make them again, it depends so much on the materials.

But by clicking on any of them you can see different design and colours for each of the products.
